When the rain hit… these retro boardgames came out of the cupboard. Rain tapping the window. Cartoons switched off early. That low light in the living room that only happened mid-afternoon. You’d open the box and the smell hit first — cardboard, plastic, something slightly dusty. Pieces tipped onto the table. Someone already arguing about the rules. Someone else “accidentally” taking extra money. The game didn’t matter as much as the ritual. Hours passed without checking the time. No phones. No rushing. Just waiting for the rain to stop — and kind of hoping it wouldn’t. Follow @insta80s90s for daily 80s & 90s Nostalgia #BoardGames #insta80s90s #RainyDayLivingRoom

90s Board Game (NOSTALGIA)
I remember a time when I thought of people’s houses filled with boardgames. Their are practical and is still used today, because it is something that has logic and brings people together. Although the trend of playing boardgames might have changed, it still something I find interesting. I have in my mind the boardgames I remember most as a kid, this is my list.
This game if you have not played it, is amazing. I am sure anyone who grew up in the 90s will know it. The sound it makes when you flip the pictures down as you get closer to identifying who your opponents person is. Now that I think about it while writing this, technically you can make your own Guess who, just replace the picture with any other pictures. This can be done printing it out on the internet you can do your own group of friends, family, Hollywood celebs, marvel characters the list goes on.
CONNECT FOUR
This one is special not because of the complexity of the game but it was a game I found out about during recess and lunch time in junior school. It is so fun and simple, but you must be 2 steps ahead of your opponent. The fun part for me was if you and your opponent started to speed things up and then you will have to try to see who is fast but at the same time planing to layout 4 vertically, horizontally and diagonally. This will end up sometimes with you and your opponent already connected four but did not realise it.
WARHAMMER
Now I am not sure if this is considered a board game, well I guess it is but the sheer wow factor when I was first introduced to it is something I will never forget. This game has a special place in my heart, because it is the game that that I knew because of a childhood friend of my who past away from a brain tumour. He was my best friend growing up, his name was Tom and he was courageous. I remember going to his house and noticed a huge table and on this table was little figurines of monster looking things. To me at first I thought it was a game of some sort and then I learned that Tom’s farther Steve painted these Warhammer characters as a hobby. I thought wow, this must have taken a long time and a lot of work. I remember first time playing it that it was super technical, you had to roll a dice to see the outcome of your attacks. Now I don’t remember the whole rules of the game cause it was a long time ago. I remember those days to be the best time of my life and Warhammer I didn’t realise until now that is an wonderful strategic game.
STRATEGO
Now this one if I remember correctly was during the start of middle school so year 7. I only remember that it was my teacher who introduce this to me and one of my friends and after the playing it, we were amazed. Now If I am not mistaken the plan was you had to set your characters anywhere on the field and your opponent will not know who those chapters are and where you placed them. Now the characters works as a ranking system so you would have Major, Captain, Lieutenant, General and so on. Obviously that was an example and I did not place them by actual rank in the military, they also had a actual bomb character which was a bomb and spy character. Your goal was to get to the opponents flag first, you would have to navigate your way across the field to your opponents side. You had to correctly choose your character to challenge your opponents character both sides have the same amount of characters, the key or the strategy was to choose the right ranked character to kill your opponents character. So if you had major go up against a scout the scout would be taken of the field. There are many other features of the game but you have to check it yourself. I really want to play this game.
