To acquire a new IP address,
restart your internet router, use a VPN, or, on Windows, type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew in the Command Prompt. For a public IP change, disconnect your modem for a few minutes to force a new DHCP lease. Mobile devices can toggle Airplane Mode or change Wi-Fi network settings.
Methods to Acquire a New IP Address
Restart Router (Most Common): Unplug your router for at least 5-10 minutes to trigger a new IP address assignment from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Command Prompt (Windows): Open Command Prompt (run as admin), type ipconfig /release to drop your current IP, and then ipconfig /renew to acquire a new one.
Use a VPN: Connect to a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to instantly change your public IP address to a different location.
Toggle Airplane Mode (Mobile): Turn Airplane Mode on for 30 seconds and off again to reset your mobile IP.
Connect to a Different Network: Switch from your home Wi-Fi to mobile data or a public hotspot.
Contact ISP: Request that your Internet Service Provider change your dynamic IP address.

Note on IP Types
Dynamic IP: Most residential connections use dynamic IPs, which change periodically or upon rebooting the router.
Static IP: If you have a dedicated static IP, it will not change without contacting your ISP.

Hi, Rick B.1
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
We understand that you are experiencing problems with an incorrect IP address, and to change your IP address you have a few options depending on whether you are connecting to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Here is how to change your IP address:
1. Reboot the router:
â Turning the router off and on will sometimes provide you with a new IP address.
â Unplug the router from the power source, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in.
2. DHCP Issuance and Renewal:
â In Windows 11, you can release and renew your IP address by going to Network and Sharing Center.
â In Network and Sharing Center, click âChange Adapter Settingsâ on the left side.
â Right-click your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, select âPropertiesâ, and then click âInternet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)â or âInternet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)â. (TCP/IPv6)”, depending on your network settings.
Click âPropertiesâ and select âUse the following IP addressâ.
â Enter the new IP address in the âIP Addressâ field.
â Make sure the Subnet Mask and Default Gateway are set to the correct values.
â Click OK, and then click OK again to close the properties.
3. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP):
â Typically, home network IP addresses are dynamic and provided by the ISP. If you are still experiencing problems, you may need to contact your ISP for assistance.
4. Go to a public Wi-Fi network:
â Connecting to a public Wi-Fi network sometimes provides you with a new IP address.
Please note that changing your IP address will not necessarily resolve your Internet or streaming issues with T-Mobile. If you are having problems with your Internet connection, it is best to contact T-Mobile or your ISP for further assistance.
